Conley Ninth at PGA Champions Tour Finals

November 21, 2008 -- With a 72-hole total of 289, Tim Conley tied for ninth place with David Ogrin at the PGA Champions Tour Finals held at TPC Eagle Trace. In the mix right to the end, Tim played solidly except for a few holes coming down the stretch. The top five finishers received fully exempt status, while places 6 thru 12, which includes Tim, earned conditional status.

"Obviously I'm disappointed that I came so close, but did not win. But hey, I won't make any excuses. It was a positive experience and I'm confident that I can play very well this coming year. I really look forward to the challenge, feeling the nerves and being in contention. With this week's experience, I feel I can close the deal next go round. A victory is what I'm shooting for!"

Next up for Conley will be some professional mini-tour events to keep the competitive juices flowing. Then, it will be on to competition on the Champions Tour. Click on the link below to view the results from the PGA Champions Tour Finals at Coral Springs, Florida.

Conley Makes 2008 Debut at ACE Group Classic

February 18, 2008 -- After a very successful rookie campaign in 2007, Tim Conley made his 2008 PGA Champions Tour debut at The ACE Group Classic at Quail West Country Club in Naples, Florida. Playing in pain, Tim never got anything going and finished the event in 77th place. His rounds of 74, 74 and 78 left him at 10-over par 226, just ahead of Dave Stockton.

Throughout the tournament, Tim was fighting intermittant muscle spasms in his back, which at times, severely restricted his golf swing. Nevertheless, Tim was able to keep his sense of humor and is now spending more time than usual in the fitness trailer searching for some badly needed relief before participating in any more events. Dick's Sporting Goods Open

July 15, 2007 -- After missing the cut at the U.S. Senior Open, Tim Conley bounced back in dramatic fashion and further improved his "batting average" to 8 for 12 in 2007 Champions Tour Monday qualifying with a superb 69 on July 9th. In the event proper which began Friday at the world famous En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, NY, Tim fired three identical rounds of 70 for a 3-day total of 210 and finished in a tie for 11th place with a large group at 6-under par which included Scott and Tim Simpson and Gil Morgan. I drove the ball better, putted well, and my game was pretty consistent from start to finish. I felt that I controlled my emotions and was able to stay in the present, concentrating on the shot at hand, for the whole tournament for a change, so that was nice!"

United States Senior Open Championship

July 8, 2007 -- After two disheartening, but respectable rounds of 77, Tim Conley missed the cut in his very first United States Senior Open. His total of 154 was 5 shots above the cut line which came at 149 on a very, very tough Whistling Straits Golf Club. He joined the likes of Hale Irwin, Andy Bean and a host of other great players who had to make early travel arrangements out of Kohler, Wisconsin.

A wayward driver was once again the biggest culprit as Tim struggled to hit fairways. "You have got to drive it straight on a U.S. Open course" stated Tim after the 2nd round was completed. "If you're in the rough, you've got two chances, and we all know what those are!!" added Tim as he headed for the car to put "Slim" and "None" in the trunk before heading over to the driving range to find a new driver for next week.

Tim Conley Appears in GolfWorld

June 15, 2007 -- Tim was among those players who were prominently featured in a recent GolfWorld article entitled "Q-school Grads Find Few Playing Chances." Tim even had his picture shown in an action shot from Kiawah Island (in the Senior PGA Championship) published right next to this interesting June 1st article. In it, author Bill Fields takes an in-depth look at the Monday qualifying process, and talks to several players about their thoughts on how difficult it is to get into events and the pros and cons of the new qualifying system versus the old Champions Tour qualifying system(s).

In the article, Tim is credited with having performed the best of all 2007 Q-schoolers, backed by his 4 of 7 "batting average" in qualifiers as of June 1. Currently, Tim is 5 of 9 in qualifying attempts and still maintains the best qualifying average of all 2007 Q-school graduates. Congratulations Tim on a great performance so far this season!

Senior PGA Championship

May 27, 2007 -- In the field by virtue of his position on the 2007 Champions Tour Money List, Tim earned the opportunity to play in his first Senior Major. With respectable ball striking, good putting and four solid pars on the brutal par-3 17th at windy and treacherous Kiawah Island, Tim averaged 76 strokes per round and finished in a tie for 71st with Bruce Lietzke. While this was not the finish he had hoped for, Tim admitted to struggling with his driver and it caught up with him on several occasions.

Stated Tim after the final round, "The course was among the toughest that I've ever played, and when you factor in the wind, it was a brute. Really, it (the course and conditions) never let up from start to finish. Like a bandit lying in wait, it would jump out and hit you over the head with a big number when you made the slightest miscue!" Nevertheless, Tim was pleased to get back out in the heat of battle and mix it up with the 'big boys'." Stay tuned for more tour coverage on Tim, coming soon...

Recap...

May 1, 2007 -- Here is a quick recap of what Tim has been up to since his last Champions event. In late March, he narrowly failed to qualify for the PGA Senior Tour's Ginn Championship at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida. Still, he is an impressive 4 for 6 in Senior Tour qualifiers for the year. Next, Tim was busy conducting his own event, The Tim Conley Invitational Pro-Am, which was held on the same weekend as the Senior Tour's "closed" Liberty Mutuals Legends of Golf event. Currently, Tim is resting some minor injuries and doing some work at the gym for flexibility. He will play in the Sunbelt Tour event next week at Pinehurst, and this Friday, May 4th, he begins his quest to qualify for the PGA Tour U.S. Open at Oakmont in Pennsylvania.

His next Senior Tour qualifying effort will be at the Regions Charity Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge in Birmingham, Alabama. Then, it's on to the Senior PGA Championship at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, and in late May, The Boeing Championship, which is being held at the Sandestin Raven Course, in Destin, Florida. In June, Tim will have the chance, for the first time, to qualify into the PGA Senior U.S. Open. This years Senior Open is being played at Whistling Straights in Wisconson.

Sunbelt Tour congratulates those who earned their 2007 PGA Senior Tour cards

April 21, 2007 -- Tim was honored to have an event on the 2007 Sunbelt Tour Schedule carry his name for the second year. The Tim Conley Invitational Pro-Am was once again held at the beautiful Chateau Elan Winery & Resort Course in Braselton, Georgia. "It was a nice gesture to have the Sunbelt folks create an event carrying my name, especially to have it conducted at Chateau Elan. This place has special memories for me. Heck, back in the late 1980's, I was even involved in the actual construction and turfing of the golf course. Later, I taught golf schools there. And later still, I represented them while playing on the PGA Tour. So, this was great fun for me. I'm pleased to be a part of it all!"

AT&T Champions Classic

March 19, 2007 -- After 3 frustrating days at the office (74-75-74), Tim Conley finished up the AT&T Champions Classic on Sunday with a disappointing 223 total and a tie for 65th place. The former Nationwide star started sluggishly, the engine sputtered, and he never really got untracked.

After the event Tim reflected back on his experiences for the week: "Yes, the rough was tough. But, no excuses. I just putted and hit it poorly. Nevertheless, all was not lost. I continue to learn from these guys, and make no mistake, these guys are good. The legends I have played with [Ray Floyd in the final round] can really get the ball in the hole, something I am not doing. I will be in my neck of the woods [in Florida in two weeks] and I will feel more comfortable. It has been enjoyable to play with winners of multiple majors and see them differently than when I saw them win on TV... I am ready to start playing the way I know I can." The Champions Tour takes a week off, then moves back to Florida.

The event proper begins on Friday and finishes up on Sunday...

This was Tim's 3rd event on the Champions Tour, and his most consistent finish to date.

After the final round, Tim was enthusiastic: "You know, I'm getting more and more comfortable out here. This week was fun. I had another great final round pairing, this time with Chip Beck and Nick Price. It was a good week and I made a lot of birdies. I made some mistakes too, but my game is getting stronger, and my confidence is growing. Which is nice..."

Fortunately, he lit up the last nine holes to snatch one of the 7 available tournament slots.

"Obviously, I was happy with the back nine..." stated Tim after the round. "That was some solid golf and I'm pleased to get in another event. Also, I want to thank Lou Smithers out at Innsbruck who has selflessly helped me to iron out some stuff with my game this past week. He's been a great help!"
